Our Story

A purple sweet potato farm located in the northern rivers district of NSW had a problem...what to do with the funky and freaky potatoes that were either too big, too small or too ugly for sale? The solution was nothing short of genius; reincarnate the dud spuds into a delicious vodka-style spirit. By thoroughly clearing the fields between harvests and then using those potatoes for spirit production, the farm has been able to reduce its waste, improve its yield and output a boutique craft spirit all at the same time.

The House on the Hill

Integral to the brand story is the lovingly restored old Queenslander house located on the top of the hill, hence the name “House on the Hill’ Distillery.

This property embodies the charm of yesteryear and the iconic spirit of Australian farming. It’s weathered and aged by the sun and salt, however retains its beauty through its form and materials.

The view from her wooden veranda captures all of Cudgen’s best bits. Inland you’ll see the mountains of the Scenic Rim towering over the farm, but past the luscious crops to the east you’ll see whales breaching in the mighty Pacific as they migrate past Kingscliff and head north to breed.

Our Spirits

House on the Hill spirits are crafted completely onsite using farm grown Okinawa sweet potatoes and traditional distilling methods. It is unadulterated, farm fresh, clear spirit with no additives.

By using traditional distilling methods, completing only a single distill, and then charcoal filtering before bottling, our sweet potato spirit, though still a clear spirit, has a complex and fresh flavour.

Our barrel aged spirit is then further  aged in French oak Shiraz and Sherry barrels for 6 months giving this spirit a wonderfully smooth and delicious flavour profile.
